Anushka Sharma’s character in Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero is probably one of the most difficult roles of her career. She is playing a scientist named Aafia who is suffering from cerebral palsy in the Aanand L Rai directorial. And from what we have seen so far in the trailer and the songs, Anushka seems to have given a top notch performance in the film.
The journey of Aafia must have been a tedious one for Anushka but she says that she was excited to do something different. In an interview with Bollywood Life, Anushka said, “I think first I was very excited that I was getting to play this character that is going to challenge me as an actor. You’re always looking to do something like that.”
Talking the about the difficulties of portraying such a demanding character, she said, “First and foremost, I had to understand what this character entails. I had to know the limitations I would have to face physically due to cerebral palsy that my character has and also from the perspective of the effect that it would have on my speech and on my breath.”
Anushka also revealed that she took the help of a team of doctors to get the nuisances right. She said, “Because of the condition, my character has a certain spasm, like a tick that happens on the face and because of that it also alters her speech and how she sounds. And a certain movement in the body and it’s a movement that’s happening naturally for her, but I had to create it on my own. It was very difficult to do. Once I understood all of this, I was working very closely with occupational therapists and audiologists, had lots of meetings with doctors to understand what’s it going to be like for somebody who has cerebral palsy. And I prepped for 3 months and tried my best.”
Well, her dedication certainly reflects on the screen and we wish her all the very best for the film.
Also starring Katrina Kaif, Zero will be out next Friday i.e. December 21.
