It has been a good day 1 for Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan starrer Kedarnath at the box office. Despite getting mixed reviews, the film has managed to take an impressive opening of Rs. 7.25 crore. The numbers are slightly more than the predictions made by the trade pundits.
The excitement to see Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter on the big screen was immense and that’s one of the key reasons for Kedarnath taking a good start. The Abhishek Kapoor directorial will now have to put up even bigger numbers on Saturday and Sunday in order to attain the hit status.
Set against the backdrop of 2013 Uttarakhand floods that took the lives of more than 4000 people, Kedarnath is essentially a love story between a Muslim porter and a Hindu girl. Both Sushant and Sara have garnered tremendous praise for their respective performances in the film. Many people are of the view that it is Sara and not Janhvi Kapoor who is going to walk away with all the Best Female Debutant trophies in the upcoming awards season. Janhvi had made her debut with Dhadak earlier this year. Interestingly, Sara was the first choice for Dhadak but things could not fall in place for her.
But, she must not have any regrets as she has got yet another film lined up for release and it is a big one. Just three weeks after Kedarnath, she will be seen on the big screen again in Ranveer Singh’s Simmba. The hype for the Rohit Shetty directorial is massive and it is expected to take the box office by storm. Simmba will be hitting the screens on December 28.
Coming back to Kedarnath, the fate of the film is yet to be decided and we will have to wait and see whether Sara’s debut will be a successful one or not.
