Coronavirus cannot survive in boiling water, find Russian scientists

Scientists from across the globe are continuously conducting all sorts of experiments to develop a better understanding of the nature of the novel coronavirus. Recently, a team of researchers from Russia’s VECTOR State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology identified a weak spot of the dreaded virus – boiling water.

According to latest reports, Russian scientists have discovered that boiling water immediately kills off the new variant of the coronavirus. They found out that the fatal virus cannot survive in warm water even for a few seconds.

In their study, the researchers from the Siberia-located institute also concluded that normal water restricts the growth of the novel coronavirus. They ascertained that 90 per cent particles of the China-originated virus died in room temperature water within 24 hours, while 99.9 per cent succumbed in about 72 hours.

However, the results obtained by the Russian researchers do not imply that drinking boiling or normal water will ensure protection from COVID-19.

The VECTOR State Research Centre of Virology and Biotechnology has been at the forefront in the battle against COVID-19. From unearthing new facts, developing rapid-testing kits and introducing multiple vaccine candidates, the Russian institute is playing a major role in finding ways to contain the pandemic.
